Federal Tax Credits
- Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) tax incentives: the Biden administration has released a variety of incentives to help individuals electrify their homes and vehicles, which will cut energy bills, improve air quality, and cut carbon pollution. Homeowners, renters, and drivers can benefit from the tax credits available under IRA. To help individuals figure out what tax credits are available to them, the Department of Energy has created the Energy Savings Hub. This is a great resource to help determine was is and isn't covered with IRA.
Under IRA, LREC members can potentially claim extra tax credits and rebates, in addition to what LREC already offers. Energy efficient items covered that match LREC's current rebates include: an air conditioning unit, water heater, heat pump system (geothermal/air source), and an electric vehicle.
It is estimated that IRA will provide American households with an average of $10,600 to electrify. To see an estimated amount you can receive from IRA, visit Rewiring America.
- The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA): adopted in October 2008, AARA allows for a 26% tax credit for costs associated with Energy Star qualified geothermal heat pumps, as noted in section 25D of the Internal Revenue Code. The credit applies to geothermal equipment placed in service. Learn more about: Federal Tax Credits for Energy Efficiency.
