An important aspect of doing business the cooperative way is that Lake Region Electric is governed by an elected board of directors which is accountable to the cooperative’s membership. This is a co-op principle that your directors take very seriously.
It is one thing to review facts and analyze statistics. We do this at every monthly board meeting. But, it is also imperative that we learn first-hand how our strategic plan is being implemented. During Lake Region’s July board meeting, the cooperative’s directors, leadership team, and the CEO of Minnesota Rural Electric Association took a tour to visit key projects underway in our service territory.
Seeing critical projects being built and the types of electrical loads Lake Region now serves provided an added perspective to our board discussion. The natural gas extension project, ethanol plant, a solar installation, and a stand-by generator installation were among the projects and sites visited. Each of these is tied to Lake Region’s strategic plan and is expected to play a significant role in the strength of our cooperative going forward. While viewing the progress at these sites, the leadership team and directors also interacted directly with the members who are involved at each location. The field trip served as an extremely valuable experience for everyone who participated.
We greatly appreciate the time and input given by the members we met with during the tour. They shared an incredible amount of knowledge and insight. We will now put this to good use as we continue to plan for the future.
