Lake Region Electric Cooperative, Otter Tail Power Company, Great River Energy, and Midwest EVOLVE are teaming up to host an Electric Vehicle Ride & Drive on Thursday, September 13 at Minnesota Motor Company from 11 am to 2 pm. The performance, availability, and environmental advantages of electric vehicles (EVs) will be showcased at the event.
The vehicle test-drives are free, and industry experts and local EV owners will be available to share their experiences driving electric. Participants will get a chance to get behind the wheel of some of the newest electric vehicles on the market, such as the Chevrolet Bolt and Volt, Nissan LEAF, Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, and Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV.
The test drives will be held at Minnesota Motor Company, (1108 Pebble Lake Rd, Fergus Falls, MN 56537) from 11 am to 2 pm along with free lunch.
The event is supported by: Lake Region Electric Cooperative, Otter Tail Power Company, Great River Energy, and Midwest EVOLVE through the American Lung Association.
The event is a part of Midwest EVOLVE (Electric Vehicle Opportunities: Learning, events, Experience), a three-year project in seven Midwestern states to demonstrate electric vehicles at community events, ride and drives, and workplace-charging seminars.
“Drivers in the Midwest are usually surprised by the outstanding performance and environmental benefits of electric cars,” said Lisa Thurstin, coordinator of the Twin Cities Clean Cities Coalition, the manager of the Midwest EVOLVE project. “They just do not get as much exposure to these vehicles as consumers on the West and East Coasts. We’re here to change that. This is a great time to drive electric, especially with so many new models to check out. Electric vehicles save fuel and improve air quality, plus they are cool, fun, and fit most peoples’ everyday driving needs.”
The EV Ride & Drive is designed to be a fun, informational event that offers a hands-on electric vehicle experience by:
- Allowing motorists to test drive a variety of vehicles that are locally available.
- Providing interaction with EV owners and their vehicles.
- Educating the public about vehicle charging at home, work, and public stations.
- Helping consumers to determine the best vehicle and charging options for their needs.
