Lake Region Electric Cooperative
When your microwave clock starts flashing and it’s a beautiful blue-sky day, you wonder what went wrong. To fix just those types of problems, Lake Region Electric Cooperative and its wholesale electricity provider, Great River Energy, are working together to improve electric service around Vergas, Perham, Dent, and Lake Lida.
Great River Energy will break ground this spring on the Schuster Lake Substation, located northwest of Perham and about a quarter mile north of the airport. The project will add robust infrastructure to the area, and technological improvements will allow for faster power restoration. The new 41.6 KV transmission substation will also reduce outages by adding an additional source of power to the area. Existing Lake Region Electric Cooperative distribution substations that will be fed off of the new Schuster Lake Substation include Perham, Dent, and Dora.
“A ground fault neutralizer will be installed at the new Schuster Lake Substation,” said Steve Lawler, Great River Energy’s project manager. “The purpose of this device is to reduce brief outages and has typically done so on the order of 60 to 80 percent.”
After construction is complete, the substation will include a 115/41.6 kV power transformer with associated breakers and control equipment.
From an electrical system standpoint these improvements should reduce the number of times you have to reset your clocks.
