Lake Region Electric Cooperative
Pelican Rapids’ entire fourth grade class took a quick walk to Lake Region Electric Cooperative’s (LREC) headquarters on May 18. Students were excited to learn about electrical safety, safety gear, equipment/trucks, and how an electric cooperative works.
“Whenever we get the chance to educate younger people about electricity, we take that opportunity,” says Paul Bergren, LREC’s superintendent. “By educating our youth, we take a proactive step in showing others how to be safe around electricity.”
Both Bergren and Assistant Operations Superintendent Brian Johnson led the student tour throughout LREC’s building. Students were full of questions as they stopped by LREC’s dispatch center and visited the warehouse. Students were surprised to learn what safety gear needs to be worn and were wowed when their teacher, Kim Nelson, took a bucket truck ride.
“Seeing their excitement and knowing they are learning about safety and electricity, that’s what makes these tours worth it,” states Johnson. “I know we are making a difference and that they will pass on what they learned today to their families.”
LREC greatly appreciates the opportunity to teach our community’s youth about electricity, how to be safe around electricity, and the history behind an electric cooperative. Thank you, fourth graders, for visiting!
