Mark Hintgen, 41, is a valued employee at Meadow Farm Foods in Fergus Falls, MN. When he started his job, his parents, Tom and Sharon Hintgen, were concerned because Mark is on the autism spectrum and only had experience working in an assembly and a custodial job. Now, through Productive Alternatives, he has been working at Meadow Farm Foods for more than two years.
“Our son is a productive member of the community and he is able to give back,” Sharon Hintgen says. She and her husband are thankful for programs like Productive Alternatives, which gives adults with disabilities the job training skills needed so they can get and keep a job.
It is an unfortunate fact that 80 percent of adults with a developmental disability are unable to find work. Productive Alternatives is changing this statistic by providing adults with disabilities the support they need to live a full and joyful life. By participating in Lake Region Electric Cooperative’s voluntary Operation Round Up program, our members are supporting the “gift of work” for adults with disabilities.
